Impossible Factory
Impossible Factory is a puzzle game in two acts, played in your browser.
Act 1 · Seams. Eight short puzzles (and eight extra ones) about what happens at the edge of the board. A seam glues two opposite edges together. Plain: what leaves one edge comes back in at the other. Twisted: it comes back mirrored, and its fin flips — L becomes R, and R becomes L.
Bridge. Rule cards on small demonstration boards introduce the factory: streams of left- and right-handed items, turns, sorters, splitters, assemblers, waste and cost.
Act 2 · The Factory. Fourteen levels. Route streams of items through the pieces you place — and through the seams you choose — to fill every order. Each level has a fastest build and a cheapest build, and they are not the same.
Features
- 16 Act 1 puzzles, the Bridge rule cards, and 14 Act 2 levels.
- Run, step and scrub through every run to see exactly where each item goes.
- Two-step hints on the later Act 2 levels: a nudge first, then a stronger hint.
- Play with mouse or keyboard.
- Progress is saved in your browser. No account. No analytics.
How to play
- Start with Act 1 · Seams. Click the glowing edges to change how they are glued (closed, plain or twisted), and place turn tiles where a puzzle allows. Send every arrow to a matching target.
- Read the Bridge cards before Act 2.
- In Act 2, pick a piece (1–4: turn, sorter, splitter, assembler), place it on the board, rotate it, choose the seams, then Run. Watch the run, or step through it tick by tick.
- Press ? in the game for the full controls and glyph legend.
Compatibility. Tested in Chromium (the engine behind Chrome and Edge) on desktop screen sizes from 360 to 1280 pixels wide. Firefox, Safari, mobile browsers and screen readers have not been tested.
Saving. Progress is saved in your browser for this page only. If your browser blocks storage in embedded games, the game tells you and still plays, but does not save. If you open the game in a new window, it may use a separate save from the embedded game on this page, so progress made in one may not appear in the other.
Privacy. This statement covers the game itself, meaning what the game's own code stores and sends. The game collects no data. It has no analytics, makes no network requests other than loading itself, and stores only your progress (and the last screen you were on) in your browser's local storage on your device. That data never leaves your device, and Settings → Reset all progress deletes it.
Separately, itch.io hosts this page and independently processes platform data, such as page visits, plays and account information, under its own privacy policy: https://itch.io/docs/legal/privacy-policy. The game's developer sees only the aggregate statistics itch.io provides on its dashboard.
